Senior Games cauldron lit Sunday night; two weeks of visitors ahead
The Huntsman World Senior Games cauldron was lit Sunday night on the Dixie Convention Center front lawn (scheduled for 7:30 p.m.), kicking off competition Oct. 5-17 across Washington County. Opening Ceremonies on Tue., Oct. 6, at 7 p.m. in Utah Tech's Burns Arena are free and open to the public.

Gunlock Road closed between mileposts 2 and 4 through Oct. 12
Washington County says rock excavation closes Gunlock Road between Mile Marker 2 and 4 through Monday, Oct. 12. Gunlock and Gunlock Reservoir are reachable via Highway 18 and North Gunlock Road; Motoqua Road via Old Highway 91 and South Gunlock Road.

United Way Day of Caring Oct. 17 seeks volunteers for Hildale garden
United Way of Washington County is inviting volunteers and donors to its Day of Caring on Saturday, Oct. 17, to help Cherish Families build a new Serenity Garden in Hildale. Plants, rock, landscaping materials and $100 sponsorships are still needed.

Drought disaster loans open to Washington and Kane county small businesses
Small businesses, small agricultural cooperatives and most private nonprofits in Washington and Kane counties can apply for SBA Economic Injury Disaster Loans of up to $2 million at no more than 4% interest, under a drought declaration centered on Mohave County, Ariz. The filing deadline is May 17, 2027.
