What we cover, and what we don’t
DixieChatter is a locally run roundup of alerts, scores, good news and things to do in St. George and Southern Utah.
We do not publish:
- Crime news of any kind: arrests, police blotters, court cases, charges, mugshots or booking photos.
- House fires or other structure fires.
- Car crashes and other traffic accidents.
- Political content or political ads.
We do publish official public-safety alerts that help people act: weather warnings, flash-flood warnings, wildfire evacuations and road closures. These always come from, or are confirmed by, an official source, and we link or embed that source. We never describe a crash, a fire victim or a crime. A road closure is reported as a closure (“I-15 northbound is closed near Exit X; use an alternate route. Source: UDOT”), not as a story about why.
Sources
- Alerts come only from official accounts or are confirmed with one (for example the National Weather Service, UDOT, Utah Fire Info, cities and counties).
- We credit and link every source. Facts are free to report, but other people’s writing, photos and videos aren’t ours to copy.
- Media rule: the only outside photos and videos you’ll see on DixieChatter are official X or Facebook embeds, shown from X’s or Meta’s servers. We don’t post screenshots, downloaded media or other outlets’ photos. Credit is not permission.
- Our own graphics are labeled as DixieChatter graphics. Any AI-generated illustration is labeled as such, and we never use AI images that look like real photos of real events or people.
Students and young athletes
- We use names, schools, grades/graduation years, positions and stats that schools, the UHSAA or official team accounts have already made public.
- We never post a student’s home address, phone number, class schedule or personal social media handle (unless a parent asks us to), and we don’t post anything about injuries, discipline or ejections.
- Parents and guardians can ask us to remove or change a student’s name or photo. We’ll honor the request quickly. (Plain results, such as a team score or a state title, may stay.)
Paid content
DixieChatter doesn’t run ads right now. If we ever publish paid content, it will be clearly labeled, and advertisers will never decide what we cover. There will never be ads on alerts. See our Advertising Policy.
Corrections
- We fix factual errors as soon as we confirm them, usually the same day.
- We note material corrections at the bottom of the post: “Correction (date, time MT): …”, saying what changed. We don’t quietly change a material fact.
- Alerts get timestamped updates (“UPDATE, 4:15 PM MT: …”). When an alert is over, we add “UPDATE: resolved.”
- To request a correction, email news@dixiechatter.com with “Correction” in the subject line and the link.
