Small businesses, small agricultural cooperatives and most private nonprofits in Washington and Kane counties can apply for SBA Economic Injury Disaster Loans of up to $2 million at no more than 4% interest, under a drought declaration centered on Mohave County, Ariz. The filing deadline is May 17, 2027.

The Huntsman World Senior Games cauldron was lit Sunday night on the Dixie Convention Center front lawn (scheduled for 7:30 p.m.), kicking off competition Oct. 5-17 across Washington County. Opening Ceremonies on Tue., Oct. 6, at 7 p.m. in Utah Tech’s Burns Arena are free and open to the public.
Washington County School District’s 2026-27 calendar has fall break on Thursday and Friday, Oct. 15-16, and a no-school teacher prep day on Monday, Oct. 19. First quarter ends Wednesday, Oct. 14. (Enterprise schools follow their own calendar.)

The National Weather Service forecast for St. George calls for sunshine with highs near 95 on Monday and Tuesday and near 97 on Wednesday and Thursday, with lows in the upper 60s. No weather alerts were in effect Sunday afternoon.

Washington County says rock excavation closes Gunlock Road between Mile Marker 2 and 4 through Monday, Oct. 12. Gunlock and Gunlock Reservoir are reachable via Highway 18 and North Gunlock Road; Motoqua Road via Old Highway 91 and South Gunlock Road.
